What is the HFC NBN technology?

Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) – This connection is used in circumstances where the existing ‘pay TV’ or cable network can be used to make the final part of the nbn™ network connection. In this circumstance an HFC line will be run from the nearest available fibre node, to your premises. HFC connections require an nbn™ network device to be installed at the point where the line enters your home. This device requires power to operate.

Connecting a Modem/Router to a HFC service – The following diagram outlines how to connect the modem/router to a HFC service. You will require a NBN ready modem/router.

  1. Power Port – Connection port for the Power to the Modem/Router and NBN NCB
  2. Phone Line Socket & Wall socket Port – Is the socket within your premise where the coaxial cable is terminated and connects to the NBN NCB
  3. Gateway & WAN Port – Connect the NBN NCB to the WAN port on the router using an ethernet cable
  4. Power Button – Button to turn the modem/router off/on
  5. Phone Port/s – Is the port to connect a DECT phone into
